Electricity Saving Campaign

Dear various Association representatives along the Atlantic Sea Board

I am writing to you on behalf of the City of Cape Town

As you may know already…
There is a serious national electricity supply shortage and we need to do everything we can to avoid power cuts again.
The price of electricity is rising steeply.
South Africa’s electricity is currently mostly produced by coal-fired power stations, which does a lot of harm to our environment, and contributes to climate change threats.

The City of Cape Town is calling on all Capetonians to reduce their electricity consumption. The City has researched easy and cost-effective actions people can take at home, and is making this information available through an electricity saving campaign. For smart ideas on ways to save money, and help save our environment, visit: www.savingelectricity.org.za .
This website provides help for taking action, including ‘Top 10 Tips’, a guide on where to find energy efficient products, and other useful tools and resources.
We are writing to you to ask for your help. Please could you:

Share information with your network of members/ residents/ constituents/ stakeholders. Please see the attached items to add to your next newsletter (if you have one), or to share in other ways.
Presentation and/or campaign materials. Let us know if there’s any opportunity to come and give a short presentation to a meeting of your members, and/or if you’d be prepared to put up a poster in a ‘high-traffic; area (e.g. an entrance foyer, or a lift) or hand out some campaign materials. We also have an interactive info kiosk which could be set up at bigger events too.

It would be great if you could accommodate this request for a presentation or information sharing, preferably to happen before 10th July 2011.
Many thanks, and we look forward to hearing back from you.
Please note that icologie have been appointed by the City of Cape Town as the service provider to roll-out this Electricity Saving Camapaign.

All the best (on behalf of the City of Cape)

Steven Marks
