City sells out more of our green spaces

CLIFTON 4TH BEACH DEVELOPMENT – 750 CAR PARKING GARAGE, SHOPPING CENTRE, HOTEL, RESIDENTIAL IN FRAGILE COASTAL GREEN SPACE!

The iconic piece of land where La Med used to be (now the Bungalow restaurant), the Glen Country Club plus bowling lawns, part of the tennis courts and cricket field are to be sold by the City of Cape Town for well over R100 million. The proposed sale will result in the development of an 3-level underground parking garage with 750 bays, 2750m² of commercial retail space and a residential complex. It is doubtful wether the final development will be less than 10,000m² (larger than the Garden Centre).
Our Ward Councillors have claimed to be unaware of this proposal yet it appears Developers discussions with Council have been ongoing for some 4 years! According to the council, the properties were part of the mayor Patricia de Lille’s “strategic asset development initiative”. Another ASSAULT on our Green Spaces and Sports Clubs. Read more ››

We must not allow the Clifton Development to become a fait accompli; Ratepayers must stand together to prevent the face of our area from changing completely and irrevocably.
The CBRRA has joined with the Clifton Bungalow Association and addressed a letter of objection to the City in this regard. You can read it ‹‹here››. The residents of the area need to stand together to head off land grabs by the mayor which are only of benefit to chosen developers.
