​​​​​​​​​​About the Give Dignity initiative​​​​​​​

The City of Cape Town is running an initiative to raise awareness around the plight of people living on the street. The initiative emphasises the importance of giving those in need a hand up rather than a handout. Instead of a cash handout, which often increases the risk of prolongued homelessness, we encourage you to make a donation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made life challenging for everyone, and our most vulnerable residents have been the hardest hit. If you are in a position to make a difference in someone's life, then please consider donating, Your contribution will go to an NGO working in the community that has been vetted by the City. That way, you can trust that your donation will go to a worthy cause.

Your donation can help someone meet their basic needs, including:

• Breakfast or a hot meal
• A night in a warm bed
• A mask or hand sanitiser

In the right hands, your donation goes further.

DID YOU KNOW?

A Caring City: We run a safe space for street people under the Culemborg bridge in the foreshore. The Culemborg Safe Space is a transitional shelter where people are able to spend the night, access ablution facilities and securely store their belongings. They can also access a number of additional services to help them reintegrate into society. 

Alternatively, there are a number of shelters run by NGOs that offer assistance. The Western Cape Government keeps a database of registered homeless shelters.

Ignisive facilitate SPARK

14 April 2022 – Today Ignisive facilitated two key modules in our Employability Skills/Empowerment (SPARK ©) Programme… with critical learning outcomes about perseverance and making positive, responsible choices…even when life throws the hardest knocks.

Life can be brutal sometimes…and unfair…(we cannot always control this)…however developing skills to respond effectively (manage our reactions/choices) is the only control we have…(thereby) not allowing our circumstances to define us or hold us back from possibilities and becoming the best version of ourselves.

What a valuable learning experience…as we learnt more from each other…than any book of theory can teach.

In fact we challenge anyone open to expanding their paradigms to spend time with a person who has hit rock bottom and continues to persevere …and serve others…regardless.
Our team of Community Stewards have been a beacon of light as we navigate our way through many hurdles, in helping people commit and move away from life on the streets.

We have seen firsthand what is possible when someone is given more than just hope, but a sense of responsibility, dignity and opportunity to shape their own destiny.

Ignisive presents at the City of Cape Town

Thanks @cityofct Mayor @geordin.hill.lewis and Mayco member for Community Services and Health, @patriciavanderross …for taking the time to address the various NPOs/Forums leading various Street People Programmes/interventions.

It is definitely a step in the right direction to start pulling all stakeholders together more and we are always excited to see any efforts to drive collaborative solutions, as we know the solution does not just sit within one organisation or one entity.

We also know that challenges from one community to the next may vary in depth and degree…but not one is more superior than the next.

The tasks at hand cannot be underestimated, as the subject of effectively assisting people living on street is filled with various complexities and there’s ‘not one size that fits all’.

We have experienced what is possible when we get Businesses, Government Entities and Communities to collaborate (authentically).

We believe the majority of South Africans want a better, more effective country and way of life.

We work daily with the most passionate people and believe that, if our passion and purpose for creating a better country collides, we can literally achieve anything.

Change processes unfortunately do not happen overnight and definitely not through ‘osmosis’…it requires deliberate, strategic methodologies to effect well thought through (shared) outcomes.

It takes true leaders to acknowledge that they may not necessarily have all the answers and few have the strategic vision and ability to galvanise people and lean into the power of the collective… in a way that systematically works through change…

Change practices that supports getting buy-in, doesn’t write off or shy away from the most vocal citizens…but instead coverts them into their strongest allies…as the best agents of change.

We wish our leaders well as they tackle massive challenges…

We see the tremendous efforts already being made…

There’s a majority of citizens with you…who would do just about anything to see our country flourish…and our citizens heal from an onslaught of way too much trauma/troubles.
