WhatsApp Number for Water/Sanitation Reporting

The city has relaunched the WhatsApp channel number to report any water and sanitation issues. The number is 060 018 1505 and is monitored 24/7. Please remember to include your full address or account number when you are reporting an issue, photos can also be sent easily which is an added bonus. Residents can scan the QR code to easily add the number to their contacts.

This line can be used to report Water & Sanitation problems, making reporting easier for our residents.

Thank you so much to two extremely generous Community Members… Danielle Stein and Nikki Bloomberg …for preparing and providing a warm pot of soup for our Ignisive - ignite inclusive change Community Stewards today.

We are especially happy…in light of yesterday’s Father’s Day… to honour sisters Danielle and Nikki’s late Father, who was their champion soup maker.

His legacy soup today was an extra special welcome treat on a frosty day.

📢Lifeguard recruitment kicks off

 

The City’s Recreation and Parks Department recruits hundreds of seasonal lifeguards each year – a mammoth undertaking that starts long before the very busy summer season.

The City’s designated beaches and public swimming pools have lifeguards present, generally from late September until mid-April each year.

This requires a full complement of suitably qualified candidates to ensure public safety during this period.

There are four categories of lifeguards, namely: seasonal beach lifeguard, seasonal senior beach lifeguard, seasonal pool lifeguard and seasonal senior pool lifeguard.

City disburses nearly R10m to NGOs to assist persons off the street

The grant-in-aid funding to 11 NGOs, totalling more than R9,8 million will be used for a range of programmes and interventions over the next six months. Today, the organisations signed their Memoranda of Agreement with the City’s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department, along with nine organisations, which qualified for their share of an additional R650 000 in grant-in-aid funding for Arts and Culture programmes.

The disbursement of grant-in-aid funding to Non-Governmental Organisations working with street people is an integral part of the City’s efforts to widen its reach in assisting as many persons off the street as possible.

The Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department (SDECD) has availed Grant-in-Aid funding to registered organisations for a number of years.

A call for applications was issued in March this year, with the requirement being that applicants should have a developmental or residential programme for people living on the street, focussing on breaking the cycle of substance abuse, anti-social behaviour as well as reintegration into society.
